Whoopi Goldberg is a legendary name in Hollywood, known for her incredible achievements and status as an EGOT winner—holding Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards. As a beloved actress and comedian, she’s been a fixture in the entertainment industry for decades.

Now, Whoopi is speaking out to address the long-standing rumors about her sexuality. Keep reading to learn what she had to say!

Despite her extensive career, Goldberg has always had to deal with the rumor mill. But during a recent appearance on The Best Podcast Ever With Raven & Miranda, she opened up about some personal feelings she’s had trouble shaking over the years.

During the podcast, co-host Raven-Symoné asked Whoopi about her sexuality. Raven admitted that when she was around Whoopi, she felt a strong attraction and even described Whoopi’s vibe as “lesbian” or “stud” energy.

Miranda, Raven’s wife, chimed in with a playful comment, saying that Raven might just be hoping for everyone to come out, creating a lighthearted moment. She then invited Whoopi to share her thoughts.

Throughout her career, Whoopi has portrayed LGBTQ+ characters in films like The Color Purple (1985) and Boys on the Side (1995), but many have continued to speculate about her own sexual identity.

Whoopi shared that she’s been asked about her sexuality countless times, something that’s followed her throughout her career. Her history of multiple marriages to men has fueled even more questions, especially after her divorces. She was married three times: first to Alvin Martin in 1973, then to David Claessen from 1986 to 1988, and finally to Lyle Trachtenberg from 1994 to 1995.

After her third divorce, Whoopi became vocal about her views on relationships, calling herself “relationship-averse” at one point. She admitted that societal expectations led her to try to be in relationships, but over time, she realized that she didn’t need to conform. “You can’t be in a marriage because everybody’s expecting you to,” she said.

Raven-Symoné also touched on what she described as Whoopi’s “duality,” praising the way Goldberg embraces both her masculine and feminine qualities. Whoopi responded by reflecting on the idea of duality, saying, “God created us in duality… it just is.”

In the interview, Whoopi finally addressed the speculation head-on, saying, “I am not a lesbian, but I know lots of them, and I’ve played them on television. I have always had lesbian friends, and they’re just my friends.”

She explained that while she is close to many of her lesbian friends, she has boundaries, jokingly adding, “I’m not gonna kiss you, but I’ll kiss you over here… and they’re like, ‘OK!’”

Whoopi made it clear that she is not gay, clearing up the rumors once and for all.

No matter how she identifies, Whoopi Goldberg remains a beloved and influential figure in the entertainment world. Her openness about her journey only adds to the respect and admiration fans have for her.
