New Developments in the Soros Investigation Emerge

House Republicans are preparing to receive an update on the Trump administration’s ongoing investigation into billionaire George Soros’ involvement in local radio stations. The Republican Study Committee has scheduled a closed-door meeting with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr on Wednesday to discuss the matter.

The Republican Study Committee, made up of 175 conservative lawmakers, will meet privately with Carr, who is expected to brief them on the FCC’s investigation into Soros, particularly regarding a firm linked to him that recently acquired more than 200 Audacy radio stations across the country.

Concerns Over Broadcasts Exposing ICE Agents

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has raised serious concerns about the actions of certain radio stations under Soros’ influence. He specifically pointed to San Francisco’s KCBS 740 AM, which reportedly aired the live locations of undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during deportation operations.

“This is really concerning,” Carr said, explaining that ICE agents operating in East San Jose—a region known for gang violence—had their locations publicly broadcast. “They identified the unmarked vehicles these agents were in,” he added.

In response, the FCC launched a formal investigation, sending an inquiry to the station demanding an explanation. “They have days left to respond and clarify how this aligns with their public interest obligations,” Carr stated.

FCC Investigation into Soros’ Media Influence

The inquiry stems from a major acquisition in which an investment firm tied to Soros secured control of more than 200 radio stations from Audacy Inc. This deal, fast-tracked by the FCC in September 2024, gave Soros’ firm a significant stake in Audacy’s operations, sparking concerns among Republican lawmakers about potential political bias and the influence of foreign entities in U.S. media.

During an interview on Fox & Friends, Carr praised the Trump administration’s border security efforts, stating, “Promises made, promises kept. [Trump] came in and said he’s the person that can not only secure the border, but also deport people here illegally, and he’s carrying that out with unprecedented speed.”

FCC’s Handling of Foreign Ownership Scrutinized

Carr has been vocal about what he sees as procedural shortcuts taken by the FCC regarding foreign ownership rules. At a September House Oversight Committee hearing, he warned that the agency was deviating from its usual process in approving transactions where foreign entities control more than 25% of a company.

“It seems to me that the FCC is poised to create, for the first time, an entirely new shortcut,” Carr noted, raising concerns about the long-term implications of such a precedent.

The investigation into Soros’ media acquisitions remains ongoing, and Wednesday’s closed-door meeting is expected to shed more light on the FCC’s findings and potential next steps.
