My Husband Created a “Wife Menu” and Demanded I Cook From It—So I Taught Him a Lesson He’ll Never Forget

Sarah was no stranger to stress. As a project manager juggling long hours and tight deadlines, she worked hard to keep her life balanced. Meanwhile, her husband Tom, an accountant with a predictable 9-to-5, seemed to enjoy the simplicity of his routine. But nothing prepared Sarah for what she came home to one night.

Taped to the fridge was a laminated, handwritten menu—complete with appetizers, entrées, and desserts. At the top it read: “This Week’s Meals – Prepared by My Lovely Wife.”

Furious, Sarah confronted Tom.

“You actually expect me to cook this after working all day?” she asked, pointing at the list of gourmet dishes.

Tom shrugged. “I thought it’d be fun. You know, mix it up a little.”

“Fun?!” Sarah snapped. “I barely have time to eat, let alone cook three-course meals. I need help, not a dinner service schedule.”

Tom, defensive and clueless, retorted, “I handle the bills, the yard, the car… you act like I do nothing.”

“This isn’t about chores,” Sarah replied. “It’s about fairness. You’re turning dinner into a job I didn’t sign up for.”

So She Taught Him a Lesson He’d Never Forget

Later that week, Sarah hatched a plan. She dipped into the savings Tom had set aside for a new car and hired a private chef—Chef Martin.

When Friday rolled around, Tom came home to the smell of freshly baked Beef Wellington and roasted vegetables. He sat down, impressed.

“This smells amazing,” he said, digging in.

Moments later, Chef Martin appeared.

“Is the beef to your liking, sir?”

Tom dropped his fork. “Wait… who are you?”

Sarah smiled. “Meet Chef Martin. I hired him using your car fund to make your menu happen.”

Tom’s jaw dropped. “You used the car money?!”

“I needed you to understand how much effort goes into what you asked. Now that you’ve had a taste of your ‘menu,’ maybe you’ll appreciate what it really takes.”

Tom paused, then sighed. “You’re right. I’m sorry, Sarah. I didn’t think it through.”

A New Beginning

From that day forward, Sarah and Tom cooked together. They ditched the extravagant menu in favor of simple, healthy meals they both enjoyed. Most importantly, they finally started sharing the weight of everyday life.

And Tom? He never made another demand like that again.
