An elderly dog with bone cancer was cruelly left chained in a drunk man’s backyard, enduring severe neglect without water or food.

Chained, Beaten, and Forgotten: Jordan’s Journey from Despair to Hope
On September 22, GWARP received a distressing tip about an elderly dog living in horrific conditions—chained up, denied food and water, and clearly suffering from serious illness. Despite years of rescuing animals, this was one of the most heartbreaking cases they had ever encountered.

The dog, now named Jordan, had likely developed osteosarcoma, a painful and aggressive bone cancer. For years, he had survived on garbage and scraps while being confined to a short chain. The complete lack of proper nutrition and care had only worsened his condition.
According to the vet, this type of cancer is usually the result of severe trauma and subsequent infection. Tragically, the report confirmed it—Jordan had endured brutal beatings at the hands of his intoxicated owner, who had kept him hidden away in a yard, shackled with a heavy metal chain that allowed no more than two feet of movement.
When GWARP attempted to rescue Jordan, the owner initially refused, insisting the dog was his “property.” Desperate to help, the rescuers turned to local authorities for support.

“As we walked away to seek help from the police, Jordan let out a cry that broke our hearts,” one rescuer recalled. “After hours of discussion and presenting proper legal documentation, the owner finally gave in—but only if we agreed to ‘report’ him, whatever that meant.”
GWARP agreed without hesitation. Jordan needed urgent medical attention—blood tests, imaging, and an immediate limb amputation to remove the cancerous tumor. Time was critical.
X-rays confirmed the worst: a rapidly growing osteosarcoma. The tumor was now so large it had started to rupture the skin. However, there was a glimmer of hope—there were no signs of the cancer spreading to his lungs.
To help Jordan shed the pain and filth of his past, the team gave him a long, gentle bath—a symbolic cleansing of the life he was finally leaving behind.
Sadly, there were no facilities in Azerbaijan equipped to perform the complex surgery Jordan needed. He would need to travel to Turkey once his condition stabilized. A few days later, Jordan was well enough to make the journey.

In Istanbul, he was sedated and underwent full-body X-rays before the operation. The surgery went smoothly—his diseased leg was successfully removed, giving him a second chance at life.
Just three days after his surgery, Jordan amazed everyone. He quickly adapted to moving on three legs, his appetite returned, and he began enjoying his meals with enthusiasm.
From the chains of abuse to the promise of healing, Jordan’s journey is far from over—but his spirit is strong, and for the first time in years, he’s free.
