Roseanne Barr Breaks Silence: “They Hate Me Because I Have Talent and an Opinion”

🔥 Five years after her dramatic fall from grace, Roseanne Barr is still speaking out—and she’s not holding back.
In a powerful new interview with The Los Angeles Times, the comedian reflects on the backlash she faced after her controversial 2018 tweet and the fallout that followed.
“It was a witch-burning,” she says. “Terrifying. I’ve survived, but it changed everything.”

📉 From Hit Show to Sudden Silence
At the time, the reboot of Roseanne was dominating the ratings on ABC. But after Barr tweeted a comparison between White House advisor Valerie Jarrett and a character from Planet of the Apes, everything changed overnight.
She claimed she didn’t know Jarrett was Black and blamed the tweet on being under the influence of Ambien, but the damage was done. ABC fired her, killed off her character, and rebranded the show as The Conners, which continues without her.
🎭 “They Just Hated Me So Badly”
Barr feels betrayed—not just by the network but by many in Hollywood.
“They hate me because I have talent, because I have an opinion,” she says. “Even though Roseanne was their number one show, they’d rather not have a number one show.”
She also reveals that she was never allowed to publicly apologize and claims she was completely cut off.
“I’m the only person who’s lost everything… There was silence. No one in Hollywood defended me—except for Mo’Nique.”

⚖️ “Different Rules for Me”
Barr points out that other comedians, including Louis C.K. and Dave Chappelle, faced controversies of their own but weren’t treated the same.
“They always throw in Dave Chappelle and Louis C.K. Well, Louis did lose everything—but he committed an actual offense.”
Despite those scandals, both comedians have since gone on to win Grammy Awards and return to the spotlight.
😔 Lost Connections & A New Beginning
Since the scandal, Barr says she’s lost contact with most of her former Roseanne co-stars and can’t understand how they moved on so quickly.
“It didn’t faze them to murder my character,” she says. “I realized—I’m not like them.”
Still, she insists she’s not bitter.
“I forgive everybody. I think God took me out of there to save me.”

🎤 A Comeback?
Barr is stepping back into the spotlight with a new comedy special, airing February 13 on Fox Nation. In a clip, she jokes:
“Has anyone else here been fired recently?”
