Robert Wagner, Now 93, Reflects on His Life Raising Three Daughters After Natalie Wood’s Death

At 93, Robert Wagner, a beloved actor known for his roles in It Takes a Thief, Switch, and Hart to Hart, has lived through many highs and lows. One of the most painful chapters in his life was the tragic and mysterious death of his wife, Hollywood icon Natalie Wood. Despite being entangled in speculation over her death, Wagner’s daughter, Natasha Gregson Wagner, has been a strong advocate for clearing his name.

Robert Wagner, who had a romantic history with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Joan Crawford and Elizabeth Taylor, was forever marked by his relationship with Natalie Wood. The two first met when Wood was only 10 and Wagner was 18. By the time she was 19, Wood had declared she would marry him, a prediction that came true not once, but twice.
After marrying in 1957 and divorcing in 1962, Wagner and Wood went on to have separate marriages, each with children from other relationships. However, their love for one another never wavered, and they remarried in 1972, welcoming daughter Courtney in 1974.

But their fairytale was shattered when Wood, aged 43, tragically drowned near Catalina Island in 1981 after an evening aboard a yacht with Wagner and actor Christopher Walken. Her death, found to be under mysterious circumstances, remains unsolved.

Following Wood’s death, Wagner became the guardian of their daughter, Natasha, who was just 11 years old at the time. Now a grown woman, Natasha fiercely defends her father, saying in a 2020 HBO documentary, Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind, that Wagner would never have harmed her mother. “He would have given his life for her,” Natasha explained.
Despite the painful years of speculation and media scrutiny, Wagner has remained a devoted father and grandfather. His love for his family is evident in his Instagram posts, where he frequently shares sweet tributes to his daughters and grandchildren. On Father’s Day, he posted a photo with his daughters, saying, “I am blessed to be a dad and grandfather to these incredible people.” He also regularly honors his late wife, Natalie, sharing memories of their life together.

Though the death of Natalie Wood remains a mystery, Robert Wagner’s legacy as a loving father and grandfather is clear. At 93, he continues to share the joy and love his family brings him, capturing hearts with his heartfelt posts.
