A Woman with a Simple Request at the Supermarket

A woman entered a supermarket, dressed modestly, with a sad expression on her face. She walked up to the owner and asked if she could take some groceries now and pay later.

In a soft voice, she explained that her husband was very ill and unable to work, and that they had seven children to feed. She pleaded for help, but the store owner, unmoved by her words, instructed the security guards to remove her from the store.

Despite being turned away, the woman continued to beg, “Please, I promise I’ll pay as soon as I’m able.” The owner firmly told her he couldn’t extend credit to someone he didn’t know. As they were talking, a customer nearby overheard the conversation.

The customer approached the owner and expressed interest in covering the woman’s groceries, but the owner ignored the offer. Curious, the store owner called the woman back and asked, “Do you have a shopping list?” She nodded and replied, “Yes, sir.”

He said, “Alright, place your list on the scale, and I’ll provide you with food based on what it weighs.”

The woman hesitated but then nervously took out a piece of paper and placed it on the scale. To the astonishment of both the owner and the customer, the scale immediately tipped as if a heavy weight had been placed on it.

The owner began to add food to the scale, but no matter how much he added, the scale never balanced. Confused, he picked up the piece of paper to see what was going on.

What he discovered stunned him: the paper wasn’t a shopping list at all. It was a prayer that read: “Lord, You know my needs. I place this situation in Your hands.”

Moved by the woman’s faith, the store owner quietly loaded all the food onto the scales, and without another word, he gave it to her as she left the store.
