The Puppy Who Refused to Leave His Friend’s Side

This is one of those heart-wrenching moments that stay with you: a stray puppy, lost and alone, stood crying beside the lifeless body of his only companion—refusing to walk away.

The scene unfolded in Daying County, Suining City, in China’s Sichuan Province. A video capturing the painful moment has touched millions around the world, showing the little dog standing protectively over his deceased friend.

As he wept in high, trembling cries, it was as if he was pleading for help… or perhaps just mourning the only family he had.

Mr. Xiong, a passerby, was drawn by the sound. What he found left him shaken.

“One was already gone,” he later shared, “and the other… barely hanging on. The cries were full of sorrow.”

In the video taken on October 25, the little survivor stands watch over the still form of his friend, too weak to do more but too loyal to leave.

Mr. Xiong knew he couldn’t save them both. Wrapping the living pup gently in cloth, he carried him away—leaving behind a heartbreaking memory.

He brought the frail dog to work with him. His coworkers, moved by the story, offered food and care. But none of them could provide a permanent home.

Still, they didn’t give up. They placed the puppy in a cardboard box, soft and safe, and took him to a nearby shelter.

“I just hope someone kind will come and give him the love he’s still waiting for,” Mr. Xiong said softly.

Even in grief, the puppy’s loyalty reminds us of something deeply powerful: dogs love with all their hearts—sometimes more than we ever deserve.
