FBI Opens Investigation Into James Comey Over Alleged Covert Operation Targeting Trump

The FBI has launched an official investigation into former Director James Comey following allegations that he orchestrated a secret operation against Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. The inquiry was initiated shortly after Kash Patel assumed the role of FBI Director.

According to a report by The Washington Times, an FBI whistleblower has alleged that in 2015, Comey authorized a covert operation involving two undercover female agents. These agents, referred to as “honeypots,” were reportedly embedded within Trump’s campaign to gather potentially damaging intelligence.

In intelligence operations, a “honeypot” is a tactic in which an agent uses romantic or sexual deception to extract information. The whistleblower asserts that Comey personally directed this effort without any legitimate criminal justification, suggesting it was a broad attempt to uncover any possible wrongdoing within Trump’s campaign.

The whistleblower further claims that the two female agents were placed in key positions within Trump’s 2016 campaign under Comey’s direction. Now, under the leadership of FBI Director Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, the agency is actively investigating the role and actions of these former undercover operatives.

According to the disclosure, this covert operation was kept hidden from the Justice Department’s Inspector General, Michael E. Horowitz, who later investigated misconduct in the FBI’s probe of Trump’s campaign. The whistleblower states that “the case had no legitimate foundation, so Comey personally oversaw the operation without creating an official case file in Sentinel or any other FBI record system.” The lack of proper documentation has raised concerns about the operation’s legitimacy.

Comey’s alleged actions were separate from Crossfire Hurricane, the later counterintelligence probe into unverified claims of Trump-Russia collusion. The new allegations suggest that Comey initiated secret surveillance efforts against Trump even before that investigation officially began.

During a recent interview, Comey expressed deep concerns about the possibility of Trump returning to office. “Trump is coming for those institutions. He knows their power, and I think he has regrets that he didn’t work hard enough to corrupt them last time. So he’s coming for them, and that’s a danger for all Americans,” he told MSNBC.

Meanwhile, former FBI Director Christopher Wray resigned on January 19, one day before Trump’s second inauguration. Wray had faced criticism from congressional Republicans for skipping an oversight hearing, allegedly to take a personal vacation.

In February, the Justice Department charged several senior FBI officials with “insubordination” following accusations of misconduct in the handling of law enforcement under Joe Biden’s administration. FBI Director Patel is expected to work closely with Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate these concerns.

The inquiry into Comey’s alleged operation will examine the extent of surveillance efforts and the decision-making process behind them. This latest probe adds to ongoing scrutiny regarding the FBI’s role in politically sensitive investigations and its impartiality in high-profile cases.
