Major: The Resilient Shelter Dog
Spending a long time in a shelter can deeply affect a dog’s well-being. The ongoing feeling of being unwanted takes a toll on their emotional state, dimming their once vibrant spirit. One dog currently facing this struggle is Major, a four-year-old terrier/pitbull mix at the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Indiana.
Major’s story began last summer when he was found as a stray. The shelter staff noticed he had a microchip, which allowed them to reach out to his original owners. Though they promised to come for him, they never followed through. Since then, Major has been waiting patiently at the shelter, hoping for a second chance at a loving home.
Despite his heartbreaking situation, Major was initially a cheerful and hopeful dog. Known for his “sweet and sensitive” nature, Major is friendly and has a huge heart. He loves to play and has a special fondness for his Jolly Ball, making him a wonderful companion. The staff affectionately nicknamed him “Major hunk” and “Major heartthrob” for his handsome looks.
As the months passed without a permanent home, Major’s once bright spirit began to fade. The repeated rejections weighed heavily on him, leaving him feeling disheartened. To help lift his spirits, the humane society moved Major from his kennel to a quieter visiting room, hoping to offer him a more peaceful environment. But what he truly needs is a forever home where he can regain his joy and confidence.
Major would do best in a home without young children or cats. While he gets along with other dogs, he may not always be aware of his own strength, so a meet-and-greet is recommended. Although not every home may be a perfect fit, there is certainly a family out there who will appreciate Major’s sweetness and playful nature.
